A SHORT DOCUMENTARY
WHY DOMINIQUE
It isn't rare that individuals with disabilities are often kept separate from society and seen as 'the others'. This trains us from an early age to believe that a person’s disabilities define them.
We believe that this stems from a lack of knowledge and experience, and we hope that with this film, we can shed light on the life of Dominique – someone with passions, dreams, and desires of her own. We explore the relationship and bond between Dominique and her parents and how they support each other along their individual journeys.
By working with experts at Northern Hills Training Center, Dominique starts a conversation about our preconceived notions of individuals that have disabilities. By concentrating the film on one individual, Dominique, we confront the viewer with a real story- with a real female and a real family. It is our hope that by doing so we can continue to break down barriers in how individuals with disabilities are seen.
DOMINIQUE
Dominique is a 28-year-old female. She was born with Downs Syndrome, but this does not keep her from striving for new goals and interacting with her small town in South Dakota. With support of her family, Dominique is an independent woman – be it hunting, working at Culver’s, or singing her favorite songs. Her disability does not define her – her abilities do.

The film follows Dominique over 5 days to explore her and her family’s life in Spearfish, SD as she prepares to go on the big hunt with her dad.
